fuel in the hearth
Apple is not a very good wood for fuel, but excellent for its fragrance when hot.
Splitting?
Quite easy to split and surprisingly easier to cut and saw when green than seasoned. Actually, it is very important so cut Apple to fire log size before seasoning because seasoned Apple is often too hard for axes and saws.
igniting?
Difficult to ignite, needs lots of other wood kindling to fire it up, but once fired up is one of the best fuel woods
sparking?
Sparks very little
smoking?
Can be a little smoky if green
heat quality?
Quite good heat once it gets going and it burns slow, and Apple is perhaps the best wood for cooking with, if you do not have charcoal.
fragrance?
One of the best woods for delightful fragrance
